Scott Steele

A native of Central Oregon, Scott’s interest in architecture began in high school and was nurtured by Bend Senior High teacher Jeff Tuculet who encouraged him to pursue the profession. After college and over three and a half decades of practice later, Scott has built an outstanding reputation as an exceptional architect, master planner and team leader in a broad range of public and private projects. He leads design and directs the firm’s resources to ensure that creativity, schedules, budgets, quality, design integrity and other commitments are met and maintained. He thoroughly enjoys collaborating with teams to develop the most innovative, appropriate, and effective designs for each specific project, and his firm’s record of performance for public and private sector clients is exemplary.

Scott’s passion for architecture and his desire to deliver responsible sustainable designs have led to truly unique projects which elevate the building occupant’s experience and enhance the fabric of the communities they are a part of. His holistic approach to design considers the macro aspects of the greater context and site parallel with the micro elements of materials and details. He is also passionate about community service, is a past Board Member of City Club of Central Oregon and has been a staunch supporter and contributor to local service organizations and charities. His recognition and honors include the Environmental Center’s Enduring Sustainability Award for three decades of sustainable advocacy, leadership and design, a Better Bricks “Emerging Leader” Award early in his career for leadership in sustainable design; the Environmental Center’s Award for Sustainable Business of the Year; past ranking as the 18th Greenest Business in Oregon to work for; Bend Chamber of Commerce’s Business of the year; two DJC Profiles in Excellence Awards; and numerous architecture and Building a Better Oregon design awards. Additionally, in 2024 STEELE Associates was honored as one of the 100 Best Green Workplaces in Oregon.

Outside the office Scott’s interests include hiking and exploring deserts and mountains, biking, outdoor recreation, weight training, pickleball, travel and activities with his family.
