Ghost Tree Residence

Scott and Olivia Steele designed this contemporary home for themselves in North Rim.

They chose the site for its natural High Desert beauty and designed it to highlight a gorgeous old dead standing Juniper “Ghost Tree”. The Ghost Tree is a part of the entry procession and accents and anchors the edge of the large outdoor patio. The home’s form is clean and modern and designed with passive solar orientation and design principles. The exterior pallet of stone, metal and wood is deliberately muted to blend with, rather than overpower the landscape. The expansive great room is the heart of the home with a folding glass NanaWall that opens an entire side to the “outdoor great room patio” that is surrounded by lichen encrusted boulders. There is not a single step in or out of the home which further promotes the ease of movement and outdoor access.
